FBI Breach - What it means for SMB
In September, the FBI confirmed it was investigating claims that its FBIJobs.gov portal had been compromised, with attackers alleging that employee personally identifiable information had been exposed. At the time, the FBI said it was still investigating how the incident occurred and whether a third-party provider may have been involved. The FBI has significant resources, experienced personnel, and some of the strongest security capabilities available. Even so, it can still be targeted. That matters for every business.
Small and mid-sized organizations are not too small to attract attention, and having good security in place does not mean an incident cannot happen. Attackers do not always need a highly sophisticated method. A compromised account, missed patch, phishing email, or weakness in a vendor relationship can be enough to create a problem.
For nearly 30 years, SecuSolutions have been telling clients the same thing; you cannot guarantee that every cyberattack will be prevented. Strong security control may reduce risk, but no firewall, security product, employee training program, or technology stack can eliminate it completely. That is why organizations also need to be prepared for what happens after an attacker gets in.
Can you detect the activity quickly? Can you contain it? Do you know who needs to be involved? Can you determine what happened, what was affected, and how to recover without making the situation worse? That is where SecuSolutions helps. We work with organizations to develop and test incident response plans, improve detection and response capabilities, investigate security incidents, and help teams recover when prevention is not enough.
When an incident happens, the middle of the crisis is not the time to figure out who is responsible for what or who you are going to call. If you are not sure whether you have an incident response plan, or whether your current plan would hold up during a real incident, contact us for a no-obligation conversation. Prepare now so your team knows what to do when it matters!
